Arvydas Petras Žygas

Arvydas Petras Žygas (born June 6, 1958 in Chicago , Illinois ; † May 7, 2011 in St. Louis , Missouri ) was a Lithuanian anthropologist and professor at the Vytautas Magnus University Kaunas (VDU) living in the USA .

Life

At the end of the Second World War , his parents emigrated to Western Europe. From 1945 to 1950 his family members lived in the camps of war refugees in Germany ; In 1950 they came to the USA, where they acquired citizenship after five years. Arvydas graduated from Oak Park School in 1975 . From 1976 to 1980 he studied Baltic culture at the Lithuanian Institute of Education in Chicago. From 1980 to 1988 he taught Lithuanian ethnography and folklore at the institute.

In 1981 he completed his bachelor's degree in anthropology and chemistry and in 1983 his master's degree in biochemistry , specializing in medical anthropology, at the University of Illinois . In 1988 he received his Ph.D. From 1989 to 1993 he taught anthropology and biochemistry in Kaunas and Vilnius , from 1989 to 1993 he headed the chair for anthropology and was dean of studies at the VDU.

After studying theology, he was ordained a priest in Kaunas Cathedral in June 2000 .

At the Vadybos ir psichologijos institutas Vilnius in Pučkoriai (administrative municipality Naujoji Vilnia ) the library and the reading room with more than 1100 books were set up by Prof. Arvydas Žygas.
