Aryabhata is an impact crater on the front of the moon , which is almost completely covered by the lavas of Mare Tranquillitatis except for a remnant of a wall in the southeast. It is located southeast of Sinas (moon crater) and southwest of Cauchy .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1979 after the Indian astronomer Aryabhata .
