Asandros (Lydia)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Asandros (Greek: Ἄσανδρος), son of Philotas, was a Macedonian general of Alexander the Great .

He was after the Battle of Granikos in 334 BC. Used as satrap in Lydia . Together with the general Ptolemy he triumphed over the Persian Orontopates . As early as 331 BC He was replaced by Menandros in office. He then rejoined the main army in the upper satrapies . After that, nothing more is passed down about him.

It was speculated in older historical research (including Berve , Badian ) that Asandros could have been a brother or close relative of the general Parmenion and that his recall was related to the differences between Alexander and Parmenion. Since Asandros after the year 331 BC Chr. Is no longer mentioned, he could have been eliminated after the execution of Philotas (330 BC) together with Parmenion. However, this assumption has been rejected in more recent studies (see: Heckel, Bosworth).
