The Asante Christ Chapel is the only Protestant path chapel in the Allgäu. It was built in 1979 above Kranzegg, a district of Rettenberg , in the Oberallgäu district ( Bavaria ) as a sign of the partnership between the Kempten dean's office and the Arusha diocese ( Tanzania ).

location

The chapel is located at the foot of the Grünten, a little above the center of Kranzegg. It stands on the Berghof Riesen property on a curve that is immediately followed by a toll road that leads to various Alps.

history

As part of the partnership between the Deanery of Kempten and the Arusha diocese, which had existed since 1976, Bavarian young people in Tanzania had built houses for employees in the Maasai steppe. During a return visit in 1979 at a work camp with young people from Tanzania and Bavaria, the Asante Christ Chapel was created in collaboration. Craftsmen from Blaichach planned and manufactured the shell .

The chapel is built in timber frame construction, the roof and walls are covered with shingles. The bell in the small roof structure is a permanent loan from the Catholic parish of Rettenberg.

Surname

The chapel's three-part name, which is based on a suggestion by a Tanzanian priest, reflects the idea and history of the chapel's origins: “Asante” means “thank you” in German and comes from Swahili , the language of Arusha. The word is a symbol for the Tanzanian part of the partnership. The German word “Kapelle” represents the other part of the partnership and “Christ” is the unifying word that is the same in both languages.
