history

The origins of the Tigers can be found in the founding of the basketball department of the BSG “Beukema” Aschersleben in 1967. The actors switched to Lok Aschersleben in 1974 and started running in 1992 as VfB Aschersleben. Another name change took place in 2003 to Aschersleben Tigers BC. Until 2009, the 1st regional league led the team as Aschersleben Tigers BC, then from 2009 to 2018 as BG Aschersleben Tigers and then again as Aschersleben Tigers BC.

After they were runner-up in the second regional league in 2004, they were promoted to the first regional league in the 2004/05 season as champions of the second regional league north-east. Thomas Mähne (22.2 points / game) as well as the Americans Omarr Russell Smith (21.8 points / game) and Edward Seward (19.3 points / game) were important pillars of the championship team.

As a league newcomer, the team was runner-up in the 1st Regionalliga Nord in 2005/06 behind TuS Lichterfelde . Mähne, Smith and Seward were also among the most important players in Aschersleben's 1. Regionalliga, Smith finished third in the basket hunter list of the 1. Regionalliga Nord for the 2005/06 season with an average of 29.2 points per game. In 2006 one was also a national cup winner.

The 2006/07 season was finished second in the 1st Regionalliga Nord and again reached the final in the national cup, which was lost. Smith was again one of the most dangerous basketball players in the league with 28.7 points per game. After the 2006/07 season, the successful Smith / Seward team left the club. Seward went to the second division BG Karlsruhe and Smith to the relay competitor Mitteldeutscher BC II.

In the 2007/08 game year, the Aschersleben team crashed and was penultimate in the 1st Regionalliga North. That meant relegation to the 2nd regional league. After two years in the northeast relay of the 2nd Regional League, 2010/11 started in the northwest relay, which consists of clubs from Lower Saxony and Bremen except for Aschersleben. The championship title was won, the most successful scorer of the championship line-up was the American Justice Nall (17.1 points / game).

As a returnee, Aschersleben had a hard time in the 1st Regionalliga Nord in the 2011/12 season and at the end of the season was eleventh of twelve places in the table. Nevertheless, the team was also represented in the 1st Regionalliga Nord in 2012/13 and achieved a midfield position. In the years that followed, they always belonged to the extended top of the 1st Regionalliga Nord and placed third in the final table in 2014/15, 2016/17, 2017/18, and in 2014 and 2015 the club from the Salzland district was again the regional cup winner. In the 2018/19 game year, the team slipped into midfield.

The 2019/20 season, in which the Tigers played for the championship lead for a long time up to the 76:68 away defeat against Derby opponents SBB Baskets Wolmirstedt, was canceled by the Regionalliga Nord on March 22, 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic . The Tigers occupied fourth place in the table at this time.

The figurehead of the seven teams eligible to play is the semi-professional regional league team. In total, the Aschersleben Tigers represent three men's teams.

Youth area

The youth area is run under the project name "Tigers Academy". The aim of this is to promote talents in the long term and bring them to competitive sports. This is to be done with the help of a team in the Central German League or in the Youth Basketball League (JBBL) , which is to be gradually built up. Currently (as of 2020) the Aschersleben Tigers offer teams in the U10 to U18. The club is also pursuing the goal of integrating a player from the academy into the first men's team at least every three years from 2021 onwards, thus creating an overall concept in which competitive youth sports and competitive men's sports are fluidly intertwined. In this way, further identification players such as Sebastian Harke and Steffen Müller should potentially be produced.

170 children and young people play in the academy, which includes both the youth teams and the school AGs (as of 2020). The U12 to U18 teams take part in the district league of the Basketball Association of Saxony-Anhalt (BVSA) . The school groups take part in the tournaments of the school league of the state of Saxony-Anhalt five times a year. During the season, youth teams are looked after by professionals from the first men's team.
