Azerbaijani-Australian relations were established when Australia recognized Azerbaijan as an independent state on December 26, 1991. In 2012 the two countries celebrated 20 years of bilateral relations.

Population numbers

During the 2011 Australian census, 450 people reported having Azerbaijani ancestors. However, it is believed that there are more people of Azerbaijani origin in Australia.
