Valvoline is probably Ashland's most famous department. Founded in 1866 by John Ellis in Pennsylvania, USA and taken over by Ashland in 1950, Valvoline is now active in over 140 countries. B. also active in Germany.

Valvoline's European headquarters are in the Netherlands, more precisely in Barendrecht . The manufacture of many products for the European market, the Middle East and Africa takes place in the Valvoline plant in Dordrecht , also in the Netherlands. The company's headquarters are in Lexington, Kentucky .

Mostly known as a manufacturer of lubricants, Valvoline also offers chemical products and programs for the automotive sector, as well as rust protection products under the in-house brand Tectyl.

Handling of radioactive waste

In 2010 it was announced that the company in Martha, a Kentucky community, had sold thousands of radioactively contaminated production pipes to farmers, kindergartens, and schools without notifying them of the contamination. Up to 1100 micro-x-rays per hour were measured, so that the primary school and some residential buildings had to be evacuated immediately after the radiation was discovered.
