Asimicin is a naturally occurring compound from the group of Anno Nine (mono- and di tetrahydrofuran fatty -γ- lactone ). The compound with the molecular formula C 37 H 66 O 7 and the molar mass 622.93 g / mol occurs in the Indian banana Asimina triloba and in the cinnamon apple Annona squamosa .
The cytotoxin has a cancer-inhibiting effect in mice by disrupting the transport of electrons in the mitochondria of the rapidly growing cancer cells. There it acts as an inhibitor on complex I of the respiratory chain. Chemically, it is a fatty acid lactone that belongs to the class of acetogenins .
