Ask Hasselbalch

Ask Hasselbalch (born February 28, 1979 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish film director .

Life

Ask Hasselbalch was born in 1979 as the son of a psychologist and the head of a film school in Copenhagen. He studied film at the Royal Danish Academy of Art and directing at the Super16 film school in Copenhagen. He received his master's degree in 2010. In 2013 he was selected to participate in the Nordic Film Lab 's program as one of 16 young Scandinavian filmmakers.

His debut feature film Antboy - The Bite of the Ant was released in 2013. With this he won the audience award of the Kristiansand Internasjonale Barnefilmfestival . He also directed the two sequels Antboy: Revenge of the Red Fury (2014) and Antboy: Superheroes to the power of 3 (2016). In 2016 he received the Erik Balling travel grant .

The Guardian of Truth 2: Dina and Black Magic followed in 2019 , the sequel to the 2015 fantasy film The Guardian of Truth - Dina's Destiny , which is based on a series of books by Lene Kaaberbøl .

Private life

His sister is the pop singer and actress Sanne Gottlieb Tyron .
