The Loyola-Gymnasium is a private school in the city of Prizren in Kosovo , which is supported by the Asociation Loyola-Gymnasium (ALG) and was set up in cooperation with the German province of the Jesuit Order . It is considered one of the best schools in Kosovo. On September 12, 2005, the first parts of the school and boarding schools were opened, and it was not until April 16, 2007 that all construction work was completed.

On April 12, 2019, the sponsoring association withdrew the trust of the director of the school, Father Axel Bödefeld SJ, because the majority of the association “does not support the basic orientation that the order wishes for the ALG”. According to the Jesuit Order, this included turning to work with the Roma and the Ashkali and, above all, the plan to set up a vocational school for Kosovar young people. As a consequence of the withdrawal of trust, the Jesuit order terminated its membership in the ALG.

School profile

The private school comprises a seven-year high school with boarding schools for girls and boys and, since 2013, a five-year Loyola elementary school. The Kosovar curriculum applies to both types of school, although some points have been amended. From the sixth grade onwards, students learn German and Latin in addition to English. In the subject of German, students have the opportunity to acquire the German language diploma, which enables them to study or study in Germany. In the twelfth grade, the students also have the opportunity to complete an internship in Germany, among others at Fielmann , Thyssenkrupp and Volksbank , with the prospect of a subsequent training contract. Students of the grammar school are also involved in Loyola Tranzit , a socio-educational center for Roma and Ashkali founded in 2016 in the Tranzit district. The aim of this project is to prepare young people from educationally disadvantaged minorities for attending a regular school.
