Asperula rigida is in Crete endemic species of the genus Meier ( Asperula ) of the family Rubiaceae (Rubiaceae).
features
Asperula rigida is a bulky, rod-shaped shrub that reaches heights of 7 to 30 centimeters. The leaves are 6 to 10 millimeters long, 0.3 to 1.2 millimeters wide and at least linear above. They fall off early. Usually the stem members are longer than the leaves. The funnel-shaped crown is 2 to 3.5 millimeters in size and colored pink, reddish, whitish or yellowish. The corolla tube is two to two and a half times as long as the corolla lobes.
The flowering time is in May and June.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 22.
Occurrence
The species only occurs in Crete. It grows in dry, rocky phrygana and in crevices at altitudes from 0 to 2040 meters.
