Aspyr Media is an American software company based in Austin (Texas) that specializes in porting Windows games to Macintosh systems and distributing them. The year of foundation was 1996.

history

In the early years, Aspyr usually took on the role of distributor in porting games to the various platforms and taking care of getting the rights to a game. The actual porting work was outsourced to partner companies such as Westlake Interactive and Beenox Studios . Together with Westlake Interactive, they brought their first big game onto the Mac market: Tomb Raider II - Starring Lara Croft (originally by Core Design ). This was followed by Tomb Raider and all other games in the Tomb Raider series, as well as other games for PC and console platforms. In the meantime, Aspyr does the porting itself.

In June 2014, the company released its first Linux port, Civilization V.

Distributors

The distribution of Aspyr products outside the USA is taken over by local distributors, some of whom also localize (translate) the products and adapt them to the domestic market.
