Assault & Battery is the second album by the Australian hard rock band Rose Tattoo . it was released in 1981 by Albert Productions in Australia and by Carrere and WEA Records in Europe and the United States.

History of origin

After the first album Rose Tattoo was only released in the rest of the world three years after the Australian release, the follow-up was released almost simultaneously in parts of the world. The album was recorded again at Albert Studios in Sydney , Australia, and produced by veteran producers George Young and Harry Vanda . In contrast to the debut, in which the entire band was responsible for the songwriting , most of the songs were now by Angry Anderson and Mick Cocks.

Shortly before the release, the band made an acclaimed appearance at the Reading Festival , which was supposed to cement the band's controversial and tough image. The album was followed by a headlining tour and a tour supported by Rainbow , which made the band known in the UK.

Republication

The album was re-released in 2008 by Repertoire Records in digipak . In addition to liner notes by journalist Michael Heatley , the album contains two bonus tracks: the single version of Rock 'n' Roll Is King (3:28) and the B-side I Had You First (2:34).

Texts

The band's lyrics are very direct and blunt. Dominated by a “male” image, most of the songs are very suggestive, for example Magnum Maid , Sidewalk Sally or I Had You First . Further text contents are the tough outlaw life in Australia. The title song Assault & Battery, for example, is based on Angry Anderson's arrest after he attacked a police officer.

Single releases

The single Rock 'n' Roll Is King (B-side: I Had You First ) was released from the album . A rarity in the band's discography is the double 7 '' single Assault & Battery with four songs. In addition to the theme song Astra Wally and One of the Boys from the debut album and Manzil Madness from the second album.
