Asta Põldmäe

Asta Põldmäe (born April 4, 1944 in Puurmani , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian writer.

Life

Asta Põldmäe graduated from Tartu State University (TRÜ) with a degree in journalism in 1969 . From 1969 to 1975 she worked as editor of the Tartu university newspaper.

From 1978 to 1980 she studied Spanish at the Moscow Foreign Language Institute . Since 1986 she has worked in the editorial department of the Estonian literary magazine Looming .

Asta Põldmäe has been a writer since 1977. She has written numerous prose texts . She also translates Spanish literature into Estonian . Põldmäe has been a member of the Estonian Writers' Union since 1978 . In 1994 she received a scholarship at the Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf .

Awards

Asta Põldmäe received the Juhan Smuul Prize in 1979 for her band Mitmekesi maateral . In 1983 and 1985, Põldmäe was awarded the Friedebert Tuglas Prize for two of her novellas .
