Astar Air Cargo was an American cargo airline based in Miami , Florida .
history
Astar Air Cargo was founded in 1969 and carried out its first flights that same year. In 1983 the airline was renamed DHL Airways and expanded very rapidly. At that time Lufthansa took a 5% stake in the airline, and in 1992 it increased its stake to 25%. In 1998, Deutsche Post AG again took over 22.5% and increased this stake continuously until it finally owned 100% of the company in 2002. In July 2003 the airline was sold to a US investor group, which on June 30, 2003 renamed DHL Airways back to Astar Air Cargo.
Astar Air Cargo currently employs around 1,000 people and served 31 national and around 20 international connections from its Louisville International Airport hub in Kentucky . The largest customers were DHL Aviation and the US Air Force . After the expiry of the contract with DHL on June 1, 2012, Astar Air Cargo ceased operations.
