AstorVoltaires is an epic-doom and post-rock project founded in 2009 by the Chilean musician Juan Escobar .

history

Juan Escobar founded AstorVoltaires in 2009 as a solo project in which he writes, plays, records, mixes and masters the music and lyrics . The debut Katan nagantü was released in 2010 via Endless Winter and was received moderately. The second album Black Tombs for Dead Songs was released two years after the debut via Rain Without End Records and Naturmacht Productions . It was described as a continuation of the style of the debut, and mostly judged to be just as mediocre

After the release of the second album, AstorVoltaires paused a longer period in which Escobar on the one hand devoted himself to other projects such as Aphonic Threnody and Arrant Saudade and moved to the Czech Republic , on the other hand he reported in a press release on the release of the third album of writer's block . In 2018, La Quintaesencia de Júpiter was released on Slow Burn Records , a Solitude Productions subcontractor, as a third album and a compilation of unreleased tracks as self-published download via Bandcamp . With La Quintaesencia de Júpiter Escobar presented a style change of the project towards post rock . The new album was rarely reviewed, but the new direction of the music was praised.

style

The webzine Doom-Metal.com describes the music of AstorVoltaires as exploring the melodic and progressive aspects of Doom Metal with a focus on a melancholy atmosphere. The band creates soft and dramatic music, the gentleness of which is not without tension. The Mar de Grises project is cited as a comparison . Other reviewers also refer to the Chilean group for which Escobar temporarily worked as a singer. The music of the first two albums is perceived in reviews as "slow and riff-stressed Death / Doom with lots of clear vocals and numerous calm, atmospheric passages" as well as "gentle unharshness [and] Doom Metal light". La Quintaesencia de Júpiter, on the other hand, was won with groups like Mogwai and Godspeed You! Black Emperor and dubbed it as a “melancholy and relaxed post-rock explosion”.
