Arrant Saudade ( English Lasting Saudade ) is a funeral doom project founded in 2015 .
history
Arrant Saudade was founded in 2015 by the British Riccardo Veronese from Aphonic Threnody and Towards Atlantis Lights , the French “Hangsvart” from Abysmal Growls of Despair and the Chilean Juan Escobar from Mar de Grises , AstorVoltaires and Mourning Sun in London. The multinational band recorded the debut album The Peace of Solitude , which was released in the same year via GS Productions . Beyond participating in a tribute album by the same label dedicated to the pop group Roxette , there were no further publications, despite an announced writing process on another album. The album received little international, but extensive positive feedback.
style
The webzine Doom-Metal.com describes the music of Arrant Saudade as “a variant of Funeral Doom guided by melodic guitar playing, which mixes clear and growled male vocals with feminine guest voices.” The guitar playing and the vocals are meanwhile in different reviews as multi-faceted and multi-layered highlighted.
The Aphonic Threnody project, which was also run with the participation of Veronese and Escobar Campillay, is cited as a comparative benchmark. Arrant Saudade is however "slower, colder and more melodic" than Aphonic Threnody. The group named Anathema , Alunah and My Dying Bride as significant influencing factors . A stylistic approach to the Death Doom and Gothic Metal of the 1990s represented by My Dying Bride and Anathema is attested in some reviews.
According to a review of the webzine Metal Invaders, their music has a common basis with Aphonic Threnody, but Arrant Saudade sounds more melodic and melancholic. To this end, the band uses melodic male and female vocals in the form of chanting , whispering and clear vocals and combine these into the quiet phase with piano tracks , keyboard passages, a harp-like guitar and a bass playing perceived as "alive" described.
