Astroloba herrei is a species of the genus Astroloba in the subfamily of the Affodilla family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet herrei honors Adolar Gottlieb Julius Herre (1895–1979).

description

Vegetative characteristics

The mostly almost upright leaves of Astroloba herrei form five straight rows or are arranged in a brick shape on the shoots. The light green leaf blade is 18 to 32 millimeters long and 9 to 16 millimeters wide. There are very fine longitudinal lines on it. The tips of the leaves are curved upwards and outwards. The attached tip is narrowly tapered and pointed and 0.7 to 1.8 millimeters long. The leaf surface is smooth.

Inflorescences and flowers

The unbranched inflorescence is a loose-flowered grape 10 to 30 centimeters in length. The white flowers are on 3.5 to 10.8 millimeter long peduncles and have yellow tips. Your midrib is light green and tinted beige or glauk . The perigon tube is 7 to 9 millimeters long and has a diameter of 2.5 to 4 millimeters. Their tips have a length of about 1.5 to 3 millimeters and are just as wide. The tissue of the outer tepals is very clearly swollen.

Astroloba herrei is widespread in the South African province of Western Cape .

The first description by Antonius Josephus Adrianus Uitewaal was published in 1948.

Synonyms are Astroloba dodsoniana Uitewaal (1950), Haworthia dodsoniana (Uitewaal) Parr (1971), Astroloba herrei cv. Dodsoniana (Uitewaal) LEGroen (1987) and Haworthia harlandiana Parr (1971).
