Ata Meken

The political party Ata Meken ( Kyrgyz Ата-Мекен for homeland ) is an entrepreneurial party and one of the most important opposition parties in the Kyrgyz Republic .

The party is oriented towards socialism . She is committed to a democratic state and economic change. It also demands social reforms. the party is the largest opposition party in the Kyrgyzstan political system by number of votes . She is an observer at the Socialist International .

It is close to several other opposition parties. Ata Meken's party members were invited to the meeting of the Union of Democratic Forces party. In December 2008, the party merged with numerous parliamentary and extra-parliamentary parties to form the United People's Movement , which, however, was unable to agree on a common individual candidate for the 2009 presidential election.

history

Ata Meken was founded in 1992 by the former parliamentary speaker Ömürbek Tekebajew and registered on December 16 of that year. Temir Sarijew and Erkin Alimbekow became important party members.

The party played a key role in the tulip revolution after the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan in 2005 and in the expulsion of the former Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev from the country. She belonged to the party alliance for justice .

2007 elections

In the parliamentary elections in December 2007, which the Ak Dschol party won, it was elected by over 8% of the electorate nationwide, but received only 590 instead of the necessary 670 votes in the Osh district . It failed because of the 0.5 percent clause valid at the time, according to which a party in every oblast and in the cities of Bishkek and Osh must achieve at least 0.5% of the possible votes. Ata Meken tried unsuccessfully to prove in court that she had clearly exceeded the required number of votes.

Elections 2010

After counting 84 percent of the votes, Respublika achieved fifth place in the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan in 2010 with 5.8 percent and is thus one of the five parties represented in parliament. Ata Meken was led in the election campaign by the former President of Parliament Ömürbek Tekebajew .
