The Ataturk Museum ( Turkish Ataturk Müzesi ) has been a historical museum since 1942 , dedicated to the life of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk , the founding father of Turkey . It is located in the Şişli district on the European side of Istanbul .

It is located in a three-story house built in 1908. Mustafa Kemal rented the house after he returned from the Syrian front and lived there with his mother Zübeyde , his sister Makbule and the adopted son Abdurrahim . He lived there until May 16, 1919, the day he went to Samsun on the Bandırma ship , on his way to the headquarters of the Ninth Ottoman Army Supervision Authority in Erzurum . The house was bought by Istanbul City Council in 1928 and some of Ataturk's personal belongings were kept there. On June 15, 1942, the house was converted into a museum and opened to visitors as the Ataturk Revolution Museum.

The museum houses Ataturk's personal items such as clothing and collections, as well as historical documents, photographs and paintings from his lifetime.
