Ataxia was a collaboration between John Frusciante , Josh Klinghoffer and Joe Lally . They released the first half of the songs recorded in 2004 under the name Automatic Writing that same year. The second part followed in 2007, AW II .
The band name comes from the Greek and means 'without order'. The medical term ataxia was not known to the musicians when they chose the name and therefore played no role for them.
