Athanasios Protopsaltis ( Greek Αθανάσιος «Θανάσης» Πρωτοψάλτης , born September 12, 1993 in Limassol ) is a Greek national volleyball player .

Career

Protopsaltis is the son of two volleyball players. At first he played soccer , but then came to volleyball through beach volleyball on the beach. He started his career in 2006 with Anorthosis Famagusta . With the club he became Cypriot champions and cup winners three times in a row in 2009, 2010 and 2011. He played in the junior national team for the first time in 2010 and took part with the team in the 2011 European Junior Championships and the 2012 World Cup. In 2011, the outside attacker moved to the Greek first division club Panathinaikos Athens . In 2013 he made his debut for the Greek national team . In the 2013/14 season Protopsaltis played at AO Kifisia and reached the cup final and third place in the championship. After that he returned to Panathinaikos. In 2015 Protopsaltis moved to France to join Narbonne Volley. With the national team he took part in the volleyball world league in 2016 . Then he was signed by the German Bundesliga club VfB Friedrichshafen . He won the DVV Cup with the club in the 2016/17 season and became German runner-up . In the next two seasons 2017/18 and 2018/19 there were more cup wins and Protopsaltis was runner-up again with Friedrichshafen. In 2019 he moved to Czarni Radom .
