The Athleten Club Oberstein 1896 eV (ACO) is a wrestling club from Idar-Oberstein in Rhineland-Palatinate .

history

On September 19, 1896, the association was founded in the Gasthaus Krone on Obersteiner Marktplatz . In 1912 the ACO was the first club in Germany to set up a wrestling team and on March 12, 1912, it played the first wrestling team competition within the DASV against ASV Mainz 88 . The ACO was once the largest athletes' club in Germany with more than 1000 members. In his former hall in the street Schönlautenbach the Obersteiner hosted German championships and state championships. At the end of the 1920s and the beginning of the 1930s, no other German club had as many German champions as AC Oberstein, especially the wrestler Fritz Bräun . The ACO is the oldest still existing wrestling club in the Rhineland Heavy Athletics Association with currently around 120 (honorary) members.

In 2006, AC Oberstein started again for the first time in the Association League Rhineland-Palatinate, where it immediately reached third place. In 2007, the team from the city of gems took fourth place, in 2008 Oberstein was runner-up in the group north and rose to third in the promotion round in the league.
