Fritz Bräun (born December 4, 1903 in Fürth , Bavaria , † January 10, 1982 in Idar-Oberstein ) was a German wrestler .

Career

Fritz Bräun began wrestling at the age of 10 in Fürth and later also did weightlifting . Bräun reached the top German class at the age of 18 when he became German champion for the first time in 1921. In 1924 he moved to ASV Kreuznach , with whose team he became German team champions in 1925 and 1928. At that time the Kreuznachers were already practicing something that otherwise only became common in the 1980s, they brought top wrestlers from all over Europe into their team. So z. For example the Hungarian Olympic champion Lajos Keresztes , with Jozsef Tasnady another Hungarian and with Bräun and Willi Müller from Cologne two German champions. Bräun also achieved international success, was twice European champion, but was never able to qualify for the Olympic Games. In 1928 he failed in the middleweight division to Hermann Simon from Koblenz and in 1932 in the light heavyweight division to Heinrich Heitmann, Hörde and Robert Rupp, Mannheim. At the European Championships in 1925 and 1926 he beat the later Olympic champions Väinö Kokkinen and Ivar Johansson .

During his wrestling career, Bräun was Reich trainer in DASV from 1931 to 1934 and then assistant to Reich trainer Jean Földeák . After 1945 he was temporarily the coach of the Saarland wrestling association. He was also a sports teacher in Idar-Oberstein.
