Johannes Jakobsen

John Victor Bech Jakobsen (* 27. December 1898 in Copenhagen ; † 7. March 1932 ) was a Danish wrestler and European champion in 1926 in Roman Greek style in the middleweight division .

Career

John Jakobsen started as a teenager in Copenhagen with the rings and developed into a large-rounder in Greco-Roman. Style. As a police officer he was a member of "Ursus" Copenhagen throughout his wrestling career. In 1923 Johannes was the first Danish middleweight champion. He won this title a total of six times.

In 1926 he started at the European Championships in Riga and was there in a dramatic three-way battle with Fritz Bräun , the defending champion from Germany and the Hungarian László Papp European middleweight champion. These three wrestlers defeated each other. Johannes Jakobsen won all of his other fights on shoulder and thus had the best fault points ratio of these three wrestlers. Among the wrestlers who were shouldered by Johannes was Ivar Johansson from Sweden , who was at the beginning of his career, which lasted until 1939 and brought him unprecedented successes.

Johannes Jakobsen also competed in the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam . He won his first three fights there, but then lost to the Estonian Albert Kusnets and the Finn Väinö Kokkinen and had to be satisfied with 4th place.

Johannes Jakobsen did not take part in any other international championships. Between 1926 and 1930 he represented the colors of Denmark in four international matches against Germany, winning twice against Fritz Bräun from Fürth and Bad Kreuznach and once against Hermann Simon from Koblenz and Eduard Krämer from Duisburg .

Johannes Jakobsen died in 1932 after a short, serious illness.
