Attack of the Mutant Camels is a surrealistic computer game that was produced for the Commodore 64 and Atari 8-bit computers in the early 1980s . The game is a scrolling shooter game. The game was programmed by Jeff Minter . It was released by Jeff Minter's own company Llamasoft in 1983.

The player's task is to shoot giant yellow camels with a small jet plane before they arrive at the player's home base. Each camel must be hit several times by the player before it is killed. At the same time, the game is made more difficult by the fact that the camels themselves shoot back.

Confusingly, a completely different game Minters from the Gridrunner series was published in the USA under the title "Attack of the Mutant Camels".

The game is a clone of the 1982 computer game Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back by Parker Brothers .

Revenge of the Mutant Camels was published in 1984 for the Amiga , Atari ST , Commodore 64 and IBM PC computer systems . The Commodore 64 version of the game was sold commercially, all other ports were offered as shareware .

The background music for the Commodore 64 version was written by James Lisney and is based on the ballet egyptien by Alexandre Luigini .

In 1987 the last part was released, Revenge of the Mutant Camels II , also known as Return of the Mutant Camels . This part was reissued in 2002 for Windows.
