Attila Dargay

Attila Dargay (born June 20, 1927 in Mezőnyék , † October 20, 2009 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian film director , cartoonist and illustrator who lived in Budapest.

Life

Dargay studied at the Magyar Képzőművészeti Főiskola (MKF) from 1945 , but in 1948 he had to leave the university for political reasons. Later he worked at the National Theater in Budapest as a theater painter . At the same time, in the founding year of the Pannonia film studio in 1951, he worked as a draftsman on the fifteen-minute cartoon A Kiskakas gyémánt félkrajcárja . In 1957 he became a director at Pannonia. His first directorial work was the short film Ne hagyd magad emberke! Dargay has worked on numerous cartoon productions, including commercials, television series, and feature-length and short films. He also worked on the series Arthur der Engel , Peti and Gustav . In 1976 he directed a film about Ludas Matyi (German title: Matyi, der Gänsejunge ) , which became the most successful film in Hungary at the time and was also internationally successful.

Dargay also wrote for the Hungarian magazine Füles Comics, like many other Pannonia employees. Many of the stories were based on Pannonia films and were also distributed in the GDR. There was also a rhyming story "Little man - you go ahead" by Manfred Streubel and Dargay in the GDR children's magazine Frösi .

Dargay also illustrated book versions of the films and other books.
