Attilio Formilli
Attilio Formilli (born June 8, 1866 in Alexandria , Egypt , † 1933 ) was an Italian sculptor and illustrator.
Life and works
Attilio Formilli received his education at the Art Academy in Florence , where he was a student of Augusto Rivalta . In 1896 his Christ on the Cross was exhibited in Florence , and in 1899 a bust of Schopenhauer at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition . He also created a marble bust of Moisè Supinos, who founded the Museo Civico in Pisa . It is located in the Museo Nazionale San Matteo in Pisa. The Biblioteca Laurenziana in Florence owns a Petrarch portrait of Formilli.
Formilli also created an Art Nouveau poster for the Festa dell'Arte e dei Fiori in Florence in 1896/97. It shows clear influences from Botticelli . In 1892, Guido Biagi published his work Gli ultimi giorni di PB Shelley with illustrations by Attilio Formilli and Vittorio Corcos by G. Civelli. In 1902 a Formilli illustrated edition of the sonnets of Petrarch came out under the title Sonnets from Petrarch in the publisher George D. Sproul.
Formilli was a professor.
