Auður Jónsdóttir (born March 30, 1973 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic writer and freelance journalist .

Life

Auður made her debut as a writer in 1997 with the short story Gifting , which was published in the literary magazine Andblær ; since then she has published her short stories in newspapers and anthologies. In addition to novels, she also devotes herself to children's and youth literature; in 2002 she wrote a portrait of her grandfather, the Nobel Prize for Literature Halldór Laxness ( Skrýtnastur er maður sjalfur ). In 2004 she won the Icelandic Literature Prize for her novel Fólkið í kjallaranum , and in 2006 she was nominated for the Nordic Council's Literature Prize for her novel . In 2009 she worked as the house dramaturge for the Borgarleikhúsið (Reykjavík City Theater).

Auður lives with her husband Þórarinn Leifsson in the Icelandic capital Reykjavík , having previously lived in Copenhagen and Barcelona .
