Au is part of the municipality of Ascha in the Straubing-Bogen district .

The village is located about one and a half kilometers south of Ascha in the Kinsach valley north of the Kienbach on the SR 68 district road .

At the 1987 census there were 42 residents, 15 apartments in twelve buildings with living space. In 2020 there are 17 buildings with living space.

There is a protected architectural monument in the village, a Waldler house with a block construction upper part from the first half of the 19th century.
