The Aubad is a 50,000 m² artificial lake in the Danube floodplains between the right bank of the Danube and the Kleine Tulln , which was created through material extraction. The maximum water depth is approx. 6 meters, the mean water depth approx. 3–4 meters. It is used as a bathing lake and has a vegetated island in the middle of a 30 hectare recreational area ( Aubad or bathing lake ) on the Danube area of Tulln on the Danube ( Lower Austria ).

Bathing area

The bathing lake is equipped with a 45 m water slide and an 18 m wide water slide , both slides were replaced in 2020. There are also several playgrounds and an adventure play stream. Part of the shore consists of a sandy beach. The Aubad is accessible all year round, although admission is only collected during the day during the bathing season (May to September). The area contains 15 hectares of forest and 10 hectares of lawns and offers several opportunities for leisure activities such as swimming , football , volleyball and barbecue areas . The fishing and fish in Aubadsee has been banned since 2018th

In 2008, the 30th anniversary of Aubad was celebrated, which was also the start of the “Clean Celebrations 2008” campaign by the Lower Austrian waste associations.

Sporting events

The Aubad is the venue for various sporting events such as the Tulln Triathlon, Tulln Gladiator and the Aquacup swimming competitions.

Water quality

The Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) regularly checks the Tullner Aubad, like every other bathing water in Austria, for possible microbial contamination. While the water quality was downgraded to "good bathing water quality" in 2010 due to contamination from an unsafe source, the water received the top rating before 2010 and afterwards under EU Directive 2006/7 / EC ( Bathing Water Directive ).

In June 2020, AGES again rated the Aubad Tulln with the top rating of "excellent bathing water quality". The nutrient level is high.

Before 2018 there were frequent problems with cercaria , which, however , were successfully contained by extensive measures on the part of the operator, the municipality of Tulln .
