The two villages are located directly on the southern bank of the Danube (river kilometer 1960), Oberaigen in the west, Unteraigen in the east, about five kilometers east of the center of Tulln. Langenlebarn comprises around 1,500 buildings with around 2,000 inhabitants, around two thirds of which are in Oberaigen. The low ratio of residential places to residents is due to the extensive second home settlements in the Danube floodplains :

history

Langenlebarn recording
sheet of the 3rd regional survey around 1872 (oxbow lake north of the municipality of Au easily recognizable)

At Langenlebarn there are burial mounds of the Hallstatt culture (beginning of the 1st millennium BC). They have been leveled, but richly furnished cremation burials have been found (double cone neck jar, double bull head jar). These were mentioned as the eastern border marks of the Passau possessions in 836. Langenlebarn itself is first mentioned in 1120 as Levarin ("hill").

The fact that areas north of the Danube also belong to the local area is due to the fact that the old district and thus municipality border is an oxbow lake of the Danube, which today represents the mouth of the Schmida . Langenlebarn was raised to a market town in 1928 , but was incorporated into Tulln in 1972. Between 1966 and 1979 took place on today's Brumowski Air Base , the airfield race Tulln-Langenlebarn , attended by racing greats such as Niki Lauda , Jochen Rindt and Jack Brabham took part.

The Tulln southern bypass has existed since 2002, which also greatly relieved Langenlebarn of through traffic.
