Aubun

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The red wine variety Aubun ( Carignan de Bedoin , Carignan de Gigondas , Counoise (erroneously, as it is often confused with the real Counoise ), Grosse Rogettaz , Gueyne , Morescola or Murescola (in Corsica ), Moustardier or Moutardier , Quenoise ) comes from the area around Gigondas and the Mont Ventoux within the French department Vaucluse and is approved in some appellations in the Mediterranean part of France, on the southern Rhône , in the Languedoc (AOC Cabardès ) and in Provence .

Aubun has long been one of the 20 most widely grown grape varieties in France. In 1979, almost 6,000 hectares were still planted with it, but it is increasingly being cleared as part of official clearing programs and rarely replanted. In 2007 there were only around 720 hectares after 1,410 hectares were surveyed in 2002.

Because of its water-repellent leaf hairs, which are white woolly at the tip of the shoots, it is quite resistant to fungi ( powdery mildew and downy mildew , raw rot ) and not endangered by late frost because of the very late shoot. The high-yielding variety is similar to the related red Counoise . The wine is similar to that of the Carignan variety , which is also reflected in the names of the synonyms. Aubun is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.

Outside of France, Aubun is found to a small extent in Australia and California . It was imported there by former emigrants. The worldwide vine stock is therefore estimated at around 2,000 hectares.

In France, clones 168 and 350 are approved for commercial cultivation.
