Auchenibert

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Auchenibert is a villa in the Scottish village of Killearn in the Stirling Council Area . In 1973 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists, initially in category B. The upgrade to the highest monument category A took place in 1999.

history

The villa was built in 1906. The important Scottish architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh was responsible for the design . Presumably, however, A. D. Hyslop completed the building. At one unclear point in time, Auchenibert was redesigned in the style of Cotswold architecture and had parallels with Gean House in Alloa and Kildonan House in Barrhill . The owners had the villa restored to its presumed original state in 1998. Comparisons were made with Mackintosh's Hill House and Windyhill .

description

Auchenibert is largely isolated around 200 m east of Killearn. The two-story villa is Neoelisabethanischen style with tudor gothic designed elements. Its masonry consists of irregularly hewn Cotswold lime with natural stone details . Several cross gables emerge on both sides of the building . A massive cornice crowns the Tudor Gothic main portal. The narrow lattice windows are coupled up to nine units along the various gable ends . The final gable roofs , the short wing with a half-hipped roof on the south side is probably a later extension, are covered with small, gray slates of slate.
