AudioExpert is proprietary music management and audio player software for Microsoft Windows , the main function of which is to clean up, merge and structure music collections. The software is available in a free and a paid version.

history

The development of AudioExpert was started in 2007 to enable the merging of distributed music collections. The software was supposed to transfer music collections that had grown over the years from converted CDs, songs bought online or recordings from the radio into a common, structured collection, even if songs were distributed in different subdirectories and on several external USB hard drives. The program should sort out duplicates .

At the end of 2008 the first version of the software appeared under the name Audio XP. With version 1.5 it was renamed AudioExpert. The range of functions has been continuously expanded up to the current version 11.

Functions

AudioExpert can read, play and write the popular formats MP3 , MP4 , OGG , OPUS , WMA , FLAC , APE , MPC , AIFF , WAV and CDA . The following main functions support the editing of music collections:

  • AutoTagging and MusicBrainz: The integrated music recognition from AcoustID.org identifies untagged music files and can add the missing tags to them. In addition, tracks, albums or artists can be compared with MusicBrainz .
  • Detection of upscaled music files whose file properties show a higher bit rate than actually available
  • iTunes: AudioExpert includes a link to iTunes to import the iTunes library, remove nonexistent files and export changes back again. The iTunes playlists can be backed up and backed up in this way. AudioExpert can also create playlists from a given file structure on the hard drive in iTunes.
  • Audio CDs: It is possible to read audio CDs . The pieces of music can e.g. B. can be converted into MP3 format via LAME , whereby text information can be determined at the same time via freedb or MusicBrainz .
  • Burning CDs, DVDs or Blu-Rays: AudioExpert can write to the media in audio or data format.
  • Transcoding of music files when exporting to USB devices, MTP- enabled cell phones or data CDs
  • Preview mode: All changes made in AudioExpert initially only refer to the display or the database. The music files are only changed when a so-called takeover run is explicitly started.
  • Playlists: AudioExpert supports the creation and editing of playlists . If titles are renamed or the freely definable naming scheme for the audio files is changed, AudioExpert can adapt all playlists that contain this title during the transfer run.
  • Keywords: The AudioExpert keyword concept allows an additional segmentation of the music collection.
  • Normalize the playback volume of music files in MP3 or OGG format via ReplayGain or MP3Gain
  • Cover search on Amazon , Last.fm or Google
  • Completion of missing lyrics, publication years or genres
  • Search and mass change using regular expressions
  • Conversion of character set tables or incorrectly UTF-8 coded texts
  • Adjustment of upper and lower case or the removal of special characters
  • Finding duplicates using the maintained ID tags, the musical fingerprint or the MD5 checksum of the audio part. Preselection of the highest quality duplicates based on different criteria that can be adjusted by the user

variants

AudioExpert is available in two versions:

  • The freeware version that can import a maximum of 5,000 tracks and with which the music recognition and iTunes connection can only be used to a limited extent.
  • The paid full version with no restrictions.
