At the castle of Count Zilimsky in the Russian annexed Poland at the end of the Tsarist era. The count, who has a grown daughter from his first marriage, is getting married for the second time. A little later he is dead. Behind it is the lover of his second wife. But the deceased had previously learned of the infidelity of his new wife and then changed his will. Unfortunately, nobody knows about it, because Count Zilimsky has hidden this new testament in a secret compartment. Then in 1914 the war breaks out.

There were acts of war between Germans and Russians on Russian-Polish soil, not far from the castle. Meanwhile, a German lieutenant quartered in the castle discovers the will. He exposes the faithless couple who have illegally taken up residence in the castle and ensures that the daughter becomes a countess and landlady of the Zilimsky castle as the rightful heir. They later get married.
