The Moss Eccles Tarn is a lake in the Lake District , Cumbria , England . The Moss Eccles Tarn is east of the Esthwaite Water . The lake is artificially created and has an unnamed tributary from the south, which extends in another arm to the Three Dubs Tarn .
The lake is now owned by the National Trust , which received part of it from the possession of Beatrix Potter when she died. Beatrix Potter often drew the lake and also had a boat on it. Potter described the lake in her "Jeremy Fisher" stories.
The lake has been part of the Claife Tarns and Mires Site of Special Scientific Interest since 1985 . The lake, along with the Three Dubs Tarn , the Hodson's Tarn and a number of other smaller bodies of water, supports up to 12 species of dragonflies and has a rich diversity of aquatic plants.
