The Claife Tarn and Mires site of special scientific interest is as a site of special scientific interest especially protected nature reserve on the ridge of Claife Heights between the Esthwaite Water in the west and Windermere in the east in the Lake District , Cumbria , England .

The reserve has existed since 1985 and is 145 hectares in size. The area protects a number of swampy lowlands, but also three man-made bodies of water ("Mire"), the Nor Moss , High Moss and Ustick Moss and the natural mountain lakes ("Tarn") Hodson's Tarn , Three Dubs Tarn and Moss Eccles Tarn .

The smaller waters of the Mire have a rich vegetation typical of moorland areas. The three tarns have a rich variety of aquatic plants and, in combination with the other bodies of water, provide the habitat for up to 12 species of dragonflies .
