Created by a dam from three lakes - Site of Special Scientific Interest |
The Three Dubs Tarn is a lake in the Lake District , Cumbria , England . The lake is on the west side of Claife Heights , a ridge that separates Windermere to the east from Esthwaite Water to the west. The lake is dammed by a dam in the south-west and thus unites three originally natural smaller lakes. The lake has four unnamed tributaries, one each from east, west, north and south. The southern tributary is a branch of a tributary of the Moss Eccles Tarn . The lake has no discernible drain. There is a boathouse on the southeastern shore of the lake near the dam.
The lake has been part of the Claife Tarns and Mires Site of Special Scientific Interest since 1985 . The lake, along with the Moss Eccles Tarn , the Hodson's Tarn and a number of other smaller bodies of water, supports up to 12 species of dragonflies and has a rich biodiversity of aquatic plants.
