Esthwaite Water is a lake in the Northern England Lake District National Park with an area of 1.1 km². It lies between Lakes Windermere and Coniston Water in Cumbria .
The lake lies in a valley formed by glaciers. Despite being enriched with nutrients from sewage, the lake is one of the best examples of a medium nutrient lake in England and Wales . The lake has been a Site of Special Scientific Interest since 1987 , but has been scientifically studied for a long time. The lake is home to 120 species of invertebrates and a third of all mayfly species in Great Britain can be found here.
