The Protestant Church of the Resurrection is a listed church building in Bebra , a town in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district ( Hesse ).
History and architecture
The first church in Bebra was probably built when Lullus , a pupil of Bonifatius , founded the monastery in what is now Bad Hersfeld. An incumbent pastor was first mentioned in Bebra in 1253. The original church was replaced by a new building in 1642. Around 1725 the building was raised by a half-timbered floor. From 1730 to 1735 a south aisle and a north aisle were added in 1892 . The building was destroyed in the Second World War and renovated and expanded from 1947 to 1949. The church was consecrated as the Resurrection Church in 1949.
The church is an elongated hall building with a 55 m high square choir tower . There are five bells hanging in the tower, the largest with the pitch a weighs 3680 kg. The choir paintings were carried out in 1949. On the east side of the church there are four sculptures of the evangelists, these were created by Richard Knecht from 1953 to 1957 .
