The Fylakio reception camp is located about 1.5 km southeast of Fylakio in the Evros regional district in northeast Greece, near the border between Greece and Turkey . It is on the road to Valtos . It has existed since 2007.

It serves as a reception center for migrants who immigrated to Greece and illegally crossed the Turkish-Greek border . For the European Agency for Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union (Frontex), the main purpose of the camp is to determine the nationality of immigrants.

According to Human Rights Watch (HRW), the camp was overcrowded in 2010 and the hygienic conditions were very poor. Children and young people are also said to have received no separate accommodation or social care. In early December 2010, when HRW visited the camp, 450 inmates, including 120 minors, are believed to have lived there.

In mid-September 2011, several members of the Bundestag, including Stephan Mayer and Rüdiger Veit , visited the refugee camps in Fylakio and Tychero . The MPs described the circumstances as "inhumane" and "out of the question". According to her, the responsible Greek minister, Christos Papoutsis, was confronted by them with the grievances.
