In the north, the Ardas forms the natural border with the local communities Komara, Elia and Plati of the municipality of Trigono . history

During the second Balkan War , Bulgarian troops conquered large areas of Thrace in March 1913. Due to the border established in the Peace of Bucharest, the village remained in the Ottoman Empire . In the Sofia Agreement of 1915, border regulation was carried out between Tsarist Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire. With a few exceptions and a 2 km buffer, the Maritsa became a border river and the village became Bulgarian. After the Greco-Turkish War , Greece received Western Thrace under the Treaty of Lausanne of 1923 . According to official Greek information, 233 refugees settled in the village through the previously agreed population exchange .

The village of Fylakio was incorporated into the rural municipality of Komara in 1924 and in 1931 it was added to the rural municipality of Rizia. Together with Keramos, Fylakio was separated from the rural community Rizia in 1950 and received the status of a rural community ( Kinotita Fylakiou Κοινότητα Φυλακίου). By joining the settlement of Ammovouno to the rural community of Kyprinos, the community area was expanded in 1983. With the municipal reform in 1997 , Kyprinos, Fylakio and Zoni were merged to form the municipality of Kyprinos . Since the administrative reform in 2010 , Fylakio has the status of a local community ( Topiki Kinotita Τοπική Κοινότητα) in the municipality of Kyprinos in the new municipality of Orestiada.

In 2007 a reception center for refugees was set up.
