Trigono ( Greek Τρίγωνο [ ˈtriɣɔnɔ ] ( n. Sg. )) Was a municipality founded in 1997 as part of the Greek municipal reform in the prefecture of Evros, which belonged to the geographical region of Western Thrace . The center of the community was the small town of Dikea . Together with two other parishes, Trigono merged into the Orestiada parish in 2010 , in which it has since formed a parish.
Geographical location
Trigono ('triangle', according to the shape of its area, which is bounded in the north by the Evros river and in the south by the Ardas ) was the northernmost municipality in Greece. Your area is located directly at the border triangle Bulgaria / Turkey / Greece .
Due to its geographical location, Trigono forms the entry and transit zone for traffic from the Balkan and Black Sea countries towards the Aegean Sea via the port of the city of Alexandroupoli .

The community Trigono was created through the amalgamation of the ten individual communities Arzos, Dikea, Elea, Komara, Ormenio , Pendalofos, Petrota, Plati, Ptelea, Spileo and the seven settlements Dilofos, Therapio, Canada, Krios, Marasia, Milea and Palli. The administrative center and seat of the mayor was Dikea, it is located directly on the connection road Ormenio-Alexandroupoli ( national road 51 , European road 85) to the “Egnatia” motorway . Dikea is 150 km from Alexandroupoli, the capital of the prefecture of Evros, and the distance from Dikea to Athens is 1061 km.
Around 5,300 people live in the area of today's Trigono district. The total area is 372 km² (about 8.75% of the Evros regional district). The population density is very low (23 inhabitants per square kilometer). The population of the villages of Trigono is a mixture of groups of different origins, partly refugees from Northern and Eastern Thrace ( population exchange in 1922 ), partly native population. The population decline due to emigration continues. There has been a 37% decrease over the past 30 years.
