Aufkirchen (mountain)

Aufkirchen is one of 14 districts of the municipality of Berg in the Upper Bavarian district of Starnberg . The parish village is located on Lake Starnberg .

The town center is on the left and right of Marienstraße, which leads through Aufkirchen. In the center there is a supermarket, bakery, butcher, stationery shop, flower shop, fish shop, hairdresser and drugstore. There is also the eponymous church and cemetery and the Oskar Maria Graf elementary school with subsequent kindergarten. The Gasthof zur Post is also located next to the church.

history

Aufkirchen is first documented as "Ufkiricha" towards the end of the 10th century. At that time, under Bishop Gottschalk († 1005), a Count Otto gave the place to the Freising Cathedral monastery . The name Aufkirchen - it means the church on a hill - tells us that there was already a place of worship here. For the period from the 10th to the 15th century, there are only a few sources on the history of the place and the church.

Aufkirchen Monastery

On January 4, 1571, the Bavarian Duke gave Albert V to the Munich patrician Georg Ligsalz the Hofmarksgerechtigkeit for mountain and Aufkirchen. In the following centuries the lords of the court changed several times.

Aufkirchen has been part of the Berg community since 1808.

In the 19th century, Aufkirchen developed into the most important school location on the east bank of Lake Starnberg, where Oskar Maria Graf also went to school. At the end of the century, today's old school house and the new rectory were built.

In 1942, bombs destroyed the former school and sacristan's house during World War II. Six people were killed. The church suffered damage to the tower and roof.

Aufkirchen has owned a schoolhouse since 1972, which is named after Oskar Maria Graf . The Oskar Maria Graf primary school in Aufkirchen.
