August Otto Bein (* 1933 in Huckarde ) is a German doctor and priest.

Career

After graduating from high school, he studied medicine at the University of Münster . In 1961 he passed his medical examination and the following year he obtained a diploma in tropical medicine from the Tropical Institute in Hamburg . In 1963 he received his license to practice medicine, in 1964 he received his doctorate in Münster. med.

He worked as a ward doctor in Oberhausen-Sterkrade and Sendenhorst. In October 1964 he went to Kerala (India) as a leprosy doctor . He returned to Germany in December 1966 for specialist training in orthopedics . From January 1971 he was a leprosy doctor and orthopedic surgeon, later as chief physician at the Sivananda Rehabilitation Home in Hyderabad . In 1979 he became a member of the Opus Spiritus Sancti secular institute in Königstein-Mammolshain. He is considered one of the leading specialists in the treatment of leprosy-related paralysis, especially in the field of hand surgery.

In autumn 1989 feet entered the seminary of Paderborn and received in 1992 in the Great Cathedral in Paderborn the priesthood . Archbishop Degenhardt from Paderborn released him to continue his work in the leprosy hospital in Hyderabad. Since his retirement he has continued to volunteer there as a doctor and pastor.
