The Main-Weser-Bahn has two tracks. There was freight train 54755 in the south go. He carried flat cars of the type Rs 669 from 1972, which had loaded steel tubes. The cars ran on bogies of the Niesky type . The steel pipes were not properly secured by steel reinforcements. The freight wagons were examined after the accident and classified as technically flawless. Accidents with such vehicles were not known until then. Nevertheless, the Federal Railway Authority ordered that bogies of the Niesky type had to be revised when used under type Rs 669 wagons if they were to be used at the maximum permitted speed of 100 km / h. The public prosecutor discontinued the preliminary investigation , so there was no criminal proceedings because they could not determine whether the improper securing of the load was the reason for the accident or the driving behavior of the freight wagon.
