August Bernatz

August Georg Matthäus Bernatz (born September 8, 1828 in Kempten ; † August 21, 1905 in Regensburg ) was a German builder and contractor .

Life

His father was the hydrotechnician Matthäus Bernatz .

In 1880 he carried out his first major hydraulic engineering project in the then German Lorraine . In 1883 he settled in Mannheim and founded a hydraulic engineering business with steam dredging for port and river construction. He worked with the bridge engineer August Grün on the construction of two swing bridges in the Mannheim harbor . In March 1886 they founded the joint company Bernatz & Grün , which won the competition for the Friedrichsbrücke and carried out the construction.

After personal differences, Bernatz left the company in 1892 and was replaced by Paul Bilfinger .
