August Brandt (theologian)

August Brandt (born August 22, 1866 in Vaals , † January 21, 1917 in Bonn ) was a German theologian.

Life

Brandt attended the Kaiser-Karls-Gymnasium in Aachen and then studied philosophy and theology in Münster . In 1893 he received his doctorate there with a thesis on the doctrine of angels of St. Augustine. In 1894 Brandt was ordained a priest in Cologne and got his first job as a chaplain to Sankt Martin in Oberhausen. He then went to Düsseldorf , where he also headed the large workers' association. In Düsseldorf he was appointed to be a religion teacher at the Royal Hohenzollern High School. In autumn 1902 Brandt was appointed extraordinary professor for pastoral care, homiletics and liturgy at the University of Bonn . From 1893 to 1907 he also took over the management of the theological Konvikt Collegium Leoninum in Bonn. At Easter 1912 Brandt was appointed full professor for pastoral theology at the Catholic faculty of the University of Bonn.

Brandt died suddenly at the age of 50 as a result of a stroke.
