August Ferdinand Siemßen

August Ferdinand Siemßen (born December 3, 1811 in Lübeck ; † November 18, 1879 there ) was a merchant and senator of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Siemßen was the son of the former tenant of the Krummesse town estate from Mecklenburg-Strelitz and his wife Anna Elisabeth, née. Zietz, daughter of the preacher at the church of St. Johanniskloster Paul Detlef Zietz. The pastor and topographer Heinrich Christian Zietz was his brother-in-law.

Siemßen learned the trade from 1827 and became a partner in the wine shop Jac in 1838 . Ludw. Bruhns & Son . In 1848 he became a member of the citizenry . In 1856 he moved his activities to Hamburg. However, the Senate called him back to Lübeck, where from 1856 he worked as Senator of the Hanseatic City in the building deputation and the Commission for Trade and Shipping. As a senator, he made a name for himself particularly in the field of welfare. From 1857 to 1870 he was president of the poor institution and member of the Central Poor Deputation. In the summer of 1871, Siemßen retired as a senator for health reasons .
